Space Tank’s Rapid Shield wins two design awards in one scoop!
Space Tank is delighted to announce that Rapid Shield is a winner of the Australian Good Design Awards and has also received a Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) Design Award.
The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards, the highest honour for design and innovation in the country, were announced today during the 2020 Good Design Week.
Rapid Shield by Space Tank Design received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in the Product Design Medical and Scientific category in recognition for outstanding design and innovation.
The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s oldest and most prestigious international Awards for design and innovation. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services on the Australian market, excellence in architectural design, engineering, fashion, digital and communication design, design strategy, social impact design and young designers.
Judging is according to a strict set of design criteria covering ‘good design’, ‘design innovation’ and ‘design impact’.
Rapid Shield also won the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences Award. The criteria included good design, innovation and the significance of a design to Australia’s culture. This Award recognises the important role of design in harnessing the challenges of science and technology to make a positive impact on our lives.
“It is an honour to be recognised for our Australian Made contribution to health PPE during the global COVID-19 pandemic.”
COVID-19 highlighted Australia’s health Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) vulnerability and the need for domestic manufacturing security. The PPE shortages and substandard alternatives being used by frontline workers resorting to ponchos and welding shields for protection led Space Tank to design an Australian made and sustainable face shield solution.
Health PPE is not only required for hospital frontline staff, it is for anybody in occupations that require close proximity to other people. We looked at the proximity of kids in schools, crowded supermarkets, aged care homes and disability providers and realized, this affects all of us!
Rapid Shield’s clean lines and sharp design aesthetic looks stylish. It’s becoming the face shield of choice with staff at major fashion and cosmetics retailers and also in other occupations like construction, food processing and crammed office environments. It is particularly popular where ‘seeing’ people’s facial expressions and emotions is important.
Our customer feedback shows people feel proud to wear our face shields knowing that they are designed and manufactured locally.
Space Tank has supplied Rapid Shields to a broad spectrum of customers including health, aged, disability, food & beverage, government and retail organisations. Due to high demand we have scaled production capability to 12,000 units/day.
Space Tank’s Rapid Shield design and local supply capability proves that local manufacturers can make competitive quality products. We believe it is now time that the Australian Government uses local solutions for health PPE stockpiles.
