Mal Wood Foundry offers a high quality lost wax casting service to Artists. Specialising in bronze and aluminium, we embrace all tasks required to achieve any of your sculptural aspirations; from conception to installation.
Mal brings a pragmatic and confident approach to all aspects of project realization, having worked in the fine art casting industry for almost twenty years he has produced artwork for many of Australia’s prominent artists. As a sculptor himself, Mal has an innate sense of respect and understanding towards fellow artists. This is reflected in the personal pride he takes in the realization of their work.
A diverse range of materials can be used in creating sculpture. With that in mind, each work is assessed to determine the style of mould appropriate for accurate translation into bronze or aluminium. There are no limitations on size or surface detail and we are happy to mould on site or at our foundry. Consulting closely with the artist, we establish the envisaged colouring effect through the application of a variety of chemicals called patination. Alternatively, a piece may also be polished, plated, lacquered or painted.
We are happy to carry out the installation of your sculpture anywhere in Australia. It is recommended that outdoor works are rewaxed yearly to maintain the patina finish unless the artist prefers to let the sculpture age naturally according to its environment.

The two-storey BIG studio boasts a 17m long cyclorama (curved wall) designed for professional film and stills shoots also hosts impressive exhibitions, screenings, workshops, conferences, theatre, rehearsals, large-scale set or sculpture builds, etc etc.
The OLV green roof is planned directly above this hive of activity, and will include an accessible deck area which can accommodate groups.
In addition, a large ground level deck connecting the studios with the adjacent bush-land is an open air space for the use of all tenants. Here living louvers shade and inspire creative minds of the future. This kind of shared communal area is unique to traditional warehouse-style studios.

The Brunswick Tool Library (BTL) is a lot like a book library, but you get to check out tools instead of books! The BTL offers Moreland and surrounding area residents and community groups access to hand tools, power tools, garden tools, ladders, etc. for use on their own projects.
The Brunswick Tool Library supports the growing local traditions of do it yourself making and communal sharing of skills and equipment. It’s great for people who do occasional home improvement, garden or DIY projects but don’t want to buy a tool they might only use once.
For a small membership fee you can get access to a range of tools anytime you like and return them when you’re finished. This tool democracy sets a great example of sustainable enterprise and community empowerment. Donate your unused tools to the BTL and support this great initiative that supports others.
